গাফির: 12

[They will be told], "That is because, when Allāh was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allāh, the Most High, the Grand."

(It will be said): "This is because, when Allah Alone was invoked (in worship, etc.) you disbelieved, but when partners were joined to Him, you believed! So the judgement is only with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great!"

(The reply will be, “No.) This is because whenever Allah alone was invoked, you used to disbelieve, and if partners were associated with Him, you used to believe. Now the decision lies with Allah, the High, the Great.”

(They will be told): “(The cause of your present state is that) when Allah alone was invoked, you disbelieved; and when others instead of Him were invoked, you believed. Today all judgement lies with Allah, the Most High, the All-Great.”

(It is said unto them): This is (your plight) because, when Allah only was invoked, ye disbelieved, but when some partner was ascribed to Him ye were believing. But the command belongeth only to Allah, the Sublime, the Majestic.

(The answer will be:) "This is because, when Allah was invoked as the Only (object of worship), ye did reject Faith, but when partners were joined to Him, ye believed! the Command is with Allah, Most High, Most Great!"

(তখন তাদেরকে উত্তর দেয়া হবে) তোমাদের এ শাস্তির কারণ এই যে, যখন এক আল্লাহকে ডাকা হত, তখন তোমরা তা মেনে নিতে অস্বীকার করতে। আর যখন অন্যদেরকে তাঁর অংশীদার গণ্য করা হত, তখন তোমরা তাতে বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করতে। হুকুম দেয়ার মালিক আল্লাহ- যিনি সর্বোচ্চ, সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ।

[তাদেরকে বলা হবে] ‘এটা তো এজন্য যে, যখন আল্লাহকে এককভাবে ডাকা হত তখন তোমরা তাঁকে অস্বীকার করতে আর যখন তাঁর সাথে শরীক করা হত তখন তোমরা বিশ্বাস করতে। সুতরাং যাবতীয় কর্তৃত্ব সমুচ্চ, মহান আল্লাহর’।

তোমাদের এই পার্থিব শাস্তি এ জন্য যে, যখন এক আল্লাহকে ডাকা হত তখন তোমরা তাঁকে অস্বীকার করতে এবং আল্লাহর শরীক স্থির করা হলে তোমরা তা বিশ্বাস করতে। বস্তুতঃ মহান আল্লাহরই সমস্ত কর্তৃত্ব।

‘এটা এজন্যে যে, যখন একমাত্র আল্লাহ্‌কে ডাকা হত তখন তোমরা কুফরী করতে, আর যখন তাঁর সাথে শির্ক করা হত তখন তোমরা তাতে বিশ্বাস করতে।’ সুতরাং যাবতীয় কর্তৃত্ব সমুচ্চ, মহান আল্লাহরই।

তোমাদের (এই শাস্তি তো) এই জন্য যে, যখন এক আল্লাহকে ডাকা হতো তখন তোমরা তাঁকে অস্বীকার করতে এবং আল্লাহর শরীক স্থির করা হলে তোমরা তা মেনে নিতে। বস্তুত সমুচ্চ মহান আল্লাহরই সমস্ত কর্তৃত্ব।

১২. এই শাস্তির কারণ হচ্ছে এই যে, যখন এককভাবে আল্লাহকে আহ্বান করা হতো এবং তাঁর সাথে অন্যকে শরীক করা হতো না তখন তোমরা তাঁকে অবিশ্বাস করতে ও তাঁর সাথে অন্যকে শরীক করতে। পক্ষান্তরে যখন আল্লাহর ইবাদাতে অন্যকে শরীক করা হতো তখন তোমরা বিশ্বাস করতে। বস্তুতঃ বিধান কেবল আল্লাহরই যিনি স্বীয় সত্তা, ক্ষমতা ও প্রতাপে সমোন্নত। তিনি এত মহান যে, অন্য সব কিছুই তাঁর নিচে।
