And let not those who [greedily] withhold what Allāh has given them of His bounty ever think that it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allāh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, of what you do, is [fully] Aware.

And let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allah has bestowed on them of His Bounty (Wealth) think that it is good for them (and so they do not pay the obligatory Zakat). Nay, it will be worse for them; the things which they covetously withheld shall be tied to their necks like a collar on the Day of Resurrection. And to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Well-Acquainted with all that you do.

Those who withhold in miserliness what Allah has given them out of His grace should not take it as good for them. Instead, it is bad for them. They shall be forced, on the Doomsday, to put on what they withheld, as iron-collars round their necks. To Allah belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth. Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

Those who are niggardly about what Allah has granted them out of His bounty think that niggardli ness is good for them; it is bad for them. What they were niggardly about will turn into a halter round their necks on the Day of Resur-rection. To Allah belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is well aware of what you do.

And let not those who hoard up that which Allah hath bestowed upon them of His bounty think that it is better for them. Nay, it is worse for them. That which they hoard will be their collar on the Day of Resurrection. Allah's is the heritage of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Informed of what ye do.

And let not those who covetously withhold of the gifts which Allah Hath given them of His Grace, think that it is good for them: Nay, it will be the worse for them: soon shall the things which they covetously withheld be tied to their necks Like a twisted collar, on the Day of Judgment. To Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

আল্লাহ নিজ অনুগ্রহে যা তাদেরকে দিয়েছেন তাতে যারা কৃপণতা করে, তারা যেন মনে না করে যে, তা তাদের জন্য কল্যাণকর, বরং তা তাদের জন্য (খুবই) অকল্যাণকর, তারা যাতে কৃপণতা করেছে, সত্বর ক্বিয়ামাতের দিন তারই বেড়ি তাদের গলায় পরিয়ে দেয়া হবে। আসমান ও যমীনের স্বত্বাধিকার কেবল আল্লাহরই। তোমরা যা কিছুই করছ আল্লাহ সে সম্পর্কে পূর্ণরূপে অবহিত।

আর আল্লাহ যাদেরকে তাঁর অনুগ্রহ থেকে যা দান করেছেন তা নিয়ে যারা কৃপণতা করে তারা যেন ধারণা না করে যে, তা তাদের জন্য কল্যাণকর। বরং তা তাদের জন্য অকল্যাণকর। যা নিয়ে তারা কৃপণতা করেছিল, কিয়ামত দিবসে তা দিয়ে তাদের বেড়ি পরানো হবে। আর আসমানসমূহ ও যমীনের উত্তরাধিকার আল্লাহরই জন্য। আর তোমরা যা আমল কর সে ব্যাপারে আল্লাহ সম্যক জ্ঞাত।

আর আল্লাহ যাদেরকে স্বীয় অনুগ্রহে কিছু দান করেছেন তদ্বিষয়ে যারা কার্পণ্য করে তারা যেন এরূপ ধারণা না করে যে, ওটা তাদের জন্য কল্যাণকর; বরং ওটা তাদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর; তারা যে বিষয়ে কৃপণতা করেছে উত্থান দিনে ওটাই তাদের কন্ঠ-নিগড় হবে; এবং আল্লাহ নভোমন্ডল ও ভূমন্ডলের স্বত্বাধিকারী এবং যা তোমরা করছ আল্লাহ তদ্বিষয়ে পূর্ণ খবর রাখেন।

আর আল্লাহ নিজ অনুগ্রহে তাদেরকে যা দিয়েছেন তাতে যারা কৃপণতা করে তাদের জন্য তা মঙ্গল, এমনটি যেন তারা কিছুতেই মনে না করে। বরং তা তাদের জন্য অমঙ্গল। যেটাতে তারা কৃপণতা করবে কেয়ামতের দিন সেটাই তাদের গলায় বেড়ী হবে। আসমান ও যমীনের সত্ত্বাধিকার একমাত্র আল্লাহ্‌রই। তোমরা যা কর আল্লাহ তা বিশেষভাবে অবহিত।

আর আল্লাহ যাদেরকে স্বীয় অনুগ্রহ হতে কিছু দান করেছেন সে বিষয়ে যারা কার্পণ্য করে, তারা যেন এরূপ ধারণা না করে যে, ওটা তাদের জন্য কল্যাণকর; বরং ওটা তাদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর; তারা যে বিষয়ে কৃপণতা করেছে, কিয়ামত দিবসে ওটাই তাদের গলায় বেড়ী পরিয়ে দেয়া হবে এবং আল্লাহ নভোমণ্ডলের ও ভূমণ্ডলের স্বত্তাধিকারী এবং যা তোমরা করছ আল্লাহ সে বিষয়ে পূর্ণ খবর রাখেন।

১৮০. যারা আল্লাহর দেয়া নিয়ামতের ব্যাপারে কৃপণতা দেখায় তথা তা থেকে আল্লাহর অধিকার আদায় করে না তারা যেন এমন মনে না করে যে, এ কাজটি তাদের জন্য খুবই উত্তম। বরং এটি তাদের জন্য খুবই নিকৃষ্ট। কারণ, তারা যে সম্পদের ব্যাপারে কৃপণতা দেখিয়েছে তা অচিরেই কিয়ামতের দিন তাদের গলার বেড়ি হবে। যা কর্তৃক তারা শাস্তিপ্রাপ্ত হবে। বস্তুতঃ এক আল্লাহর দিকেই আকাশ ও জমিনের সব কিছু প্রত্যাবর্তন করবে। তাঁর সকল সৃষ্টি ধ্বংস হওয়ার পর শুধু তিনিই জীবিত থাকবেন। আল্লাহ তা‘আলা তোমাদের সকল সূক্ষ্মাতিসূক্ষ্ম কর্মকাণ্ড সম্পর্কে ভালোই জানেন। তাই অচিরেই তিনি তোমাদেরকে এর প্রতিদান দিবেন।
