وَمَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِى يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ إِلَّا دُعَآءً وَنِدَآءً ۚ صُمٌّۢ بُكْمٌ عُمْىٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ
English Translations
The example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries [i.e., cattle or sheep] - deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand.
And the example of those who disbelieve, is as that of him who shouts to the (flock of sheep) that hears nothing but calls and cries. (They are) deaf, dumb and blind. So they do not understand.
The example of (calling) those who disbelieve is such as someone is shouting at an animal that hears nothing but a call and cry. They are deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand
Those who have refused to follow the Way of Allah resemble cattle; when the shepherd calls them they hear nothing except shouting and crying; they are deaf, dumb and blind, and so they understand nothing.
The likeness of those who disbelieve (in relation to the messenger) is as the likeness of one who calleth unto that which heareth naught except a shout and cry. Deaf, dumb, blind, therefore they have no sense.
The parable of those who reject Faith is as if one were to shout Like a goat-herd, to things that listen to nothing but calls and cries: Deaf, dumb, and blind, they are void of wisdom.

এ কাফিরদের তুলনা সেই ব্যক্তির মত যে এমন কিছুকে ডাকে যা হাঁক-ডাক ছাড়া আর কিছুই শোনে না, বধির, মূক ও অন্ধ; কাজেই তারা বুঝবে না।
আর যারা কুফরী করেছে তাদের উদাহরণ তার মত, যে এমন কিছুর জন্য চিৎকার করছে, হাঁক-ডাক ছাড়া যে কিছু শোনে না। তারা বধির, বোবা, অন্ধ। তাই তারা বুঝে না।
আর যারা অবিশ্বাস করেছে তাদের দৃষ্টান্ত ওদের ন্যায় - যেমন কেহ আহবান করলে শুধু চীৎকার ও ধ্বনি ব্যতীত আর কিছুই শোনেনা, তারা বধির, মুক, অন্ধ; কাজেই তারা বুঝতে পারেনা।
আর যারা কুফরী করেছে তাদের উদাহরণ তার মত যে, এমন কিছুকে ডাকছে যে হাঁক-ডাক ছাড়া আর কিছুই শুনে না। তারা বধির, বোবা, অন্ধ, কাজেই তারা বুঝে না।
আর যারা কুফরী করেছে তাদের দৃষ্টান্ত ওদের ন্যায় যাদেরকে কেউ আহ্বান করলে শুধু চিৎকার ও শব্দ ব্যতীত আর কিছুই শোনে না। তারা বধির, বোবা, অন্ধ। কাজেই তারা বুঝতে পারে না।
১৭১. যে কাফিররা নিজেদের বাপ-দাদার অনুসরণ করে তাদের দৃষ্টান্ত সে রাখালের ন্যায় যে তার চরানো পশুগুলোকে খুব চিৎকার দিয়ে ডাকে। বস্তুতঃ তারা তো তার ডাক শুনতে পায় ঠিকই তবে তারা তার কোন কথাই বুঝতে পারে না। মূলতঃ তারা বধির। তারা মঙ্গলজনক কোন সত্য শুনতে পায় না। তারা মূক। তারা কোন সত্য কথা বলতে পারে না। তারা অন্ধ। তাই আপনি তাদেরকে যে হিদায়েতের দিকে ডাকছেন তা তারা বুঝতে পারে না।

আর যারা কুফরী করেছে তাদের উদাহরণ তার মত যে, এমন কিছুকে ডাকছে যে হাঁক-ডাক ছাড়া আর কিছুই শুনে না। তারা বধির, বোবা, অন্ধ, কাজেই তারা বুঝে না [১]।
[১] এ উপমাটির দুটি দিক রয়েছে। (এক) তাদের অবস্থা সেই নিবোধ প্রাণীদের মত, যারা এক-একটি পালে বিভক্ত হয়ে নিজেদের রাখালদের পিছনে চলতে থাকে এবং না জেনে-বুঝেই তাদের হাঁক-ডাকের উপর চলতে-ফিরতে থাকে। (দুই) এর দ্বিতীয় দিকটি হচ্ছে, কাফের-মুশরিকদেরকে আহবান করার ও তাদের কাছে দ্বীনের দাওয়াত প্রচারের সময় মনে হতে থাকে যেন নির্বোধ জন্তু-জানোয়ারদেরকে আহবান জানানো হচ্ছে, তারা কেবল আওয়াজ শুনতে পারে কিন্তু কি বলা হচ্ছে, তা কিছুই বুঝতে পারে না। [মুয়াসসার]
